Sitting on the Fence of Home Ownership

As a title insurance guy, I want to see homes worth more because there’s more commission for me on the title fees, but I can’t help being excited about all the great deals out there right now.  From low purchase prices through distressed properties, added together with low rates —man, it’s a great time to be a home buyer!  

Furthermore, there are a lot of housing assistance programs locally available that can take you through credit counseling and put you into a home you can afford in a stable neighborhood.  Tom Crawford, Director of Housing and Community Services in St. Johns County , was a recent guest on our radio show (“Land Title Talk” Wednesday s at 7:30 a.m. on Newstalk 1240 AM).  His division works with St. Johns Housing Partnership and together they offer a number of homebuyer services for low to moderate income levels.  

Mr. Crawford outlined one program ( CWHIP - Community Workforce Housing Innovative Pilot) where a qualified applicant could get a newly constructed four bedroom home in a stable neighborhood centrally located to schools and shopping with a mortgage payment (including taxes and insurance) of less than $800 a month!
