The globe-trotting performer, who toured Europe and played at Carnegie Hall before his junior year at Middletown's Wesleyan University, is an adjunct professor of music at Wesleyan and for 20 years has been the director of the Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra.
His band, Africaribbean Vibes, features himself on vibes; Dwight Andrews , an ordained minister and composer of scores for film and stage on saxophone, clarinet and flute; James Weidman , piano; Belden Bullock , bass; Pheeroan Aklaff , drums; Tony Lombardozzi , guitar; Kwaaku Martin Obeng , percussion; Jarawa Brian Gray , congas; and Asher DeLerme , percussion.
If Weidman and Bullock sound especially empathetic with Hoggard, it's because they've been performing and recording high-caliber music with him for more than 15 years.
