North Palm Beach to consider allowing larger boats, RVs at homes
&Mdash; Jamie Titcomb's first workshop as the village's new manager last week drew a standing-room only crowd, though most weren't there to roll out the welcome mat.The workshop, which was scheduled after a group of residents contacted village administrators, addressed an issue important to residents - amending the village code to increase the allowable height and length requirements for boats, camping equipment and recreational and trailered vehicles on residential property.
Currently, village code allows for a maximum length of 30 feet and a maximum height of 10 feet.
For many residents, those restrictions are essential to preserving the beauty of the village, and should be kept in place.
"I don't want to see the code changed," resident Susan Bickel said. "North Palm is unique, and it does create eyesores. I have spoken to enough Realtors that it will lower our property values."
West Palm Beach Fishing Club President Tom Twyford sees the issue differently.

"If you have adequate space alongside your house and adequate vegetation, with a two-story house, you can put a pretty big boat or vehicle back there," he said. "It's not that noticeable to people from the street. I don't think everybody fits inside that 30-by-10 foot box.
"I would like to see the ordinance amended so that some of these other reasonable issues could be considered so that not everybody has to try to find a storage place for their boat or RV," he said.
Titcomb will take 60 days to look at the issues raised at the workshop and then present alternatives to the council.
